Fit Tip Friday: Super Food You Never Knew Existed

In a quest to make eating healthier an easier and less daunting task for our clients (and myself, who are we kidding),  I am always looking out for "normal" tasty foods  to use to sneak some "health" into our  diets. Here are a few "healthy" foods disguised as regular and tasty treats  Try adding some of these into your day's food plan for an extra boost of health.

Popcorn

This simple little snack is loaded with antioxidants— Popcorn kernels have polyphenols—potent cancer-fighting plant compounds.

3  CUPS = 1 Bread serving and is a whole lot more satisfying than most processed garbage for the same calories.

I spritz it with a light mist of olive oil and  toss on 4 tbs of parm cheese (1 dairy, 8g of protein) to make it a more well rounded snack.

NOT the movie theater kind which generally has 825 calories, 46 grams of fat, including heart-damaging trans fat.

Avoid microwave popcorns the bags of which contain nonstick chemicals linked to infertility, thyroid problems, and ADHD

  BONUS Fit TIP:

Easy rules of thumb for determining if a food is healthy...

1. number of ingredients - if there are more than 3, chances are its not

2. Can't pronounce an ingredient? Probably not healthy

I would seriously rather have someone eat a serving or 2 of lays potato chips which, while procrssed, contain potatoes, oil and salt than most of those "healthy" granola or protein bars that have things like corn syrup and preservatives

MORAL TO THE STORY: read food labels

As Heard at my gym last week end:

Gym "trainer": I don't appreciate You rolling your eyes at me when I am with a client

Me: I don't appreciate you denigrating the integrity of my profession by taking money to give people ineffective programs, allow inappropriate form or setting them up for injury by giving them exercises beyond their fitness level or skill set

Crickets... and a dirty look

Moral to the story? Just because someone looks good or has a shirt that says "Trainer" on their back, does NOT mean they know how to properly program a client or proper form. There are "trainers" and there are fitness professionals ... know the difference and be educated before giving any one your money to "train" you
