Have you ever watched a friends "miraculous" weight loss adventures in your news feed only to see the posts suddenly stop and then see a picture of them in a few months BIGGER than they were when they started? Or, maybe, you've been that "friend"?
A very common experience when you drastically reduce calories, cut out entire food groups or undertake a "diet" that is far too strict for your lifestyle is for your metabolism to slow down to conserve fuel, for cravings to begin and strengthen as your body fights for what it needs and for your life's demands to overtake your new "diet" . Your body is simply trying to protect itself from starvation and deprivation. Once you
start eating normally again, you will have a metabolic rebound, and your body will hold onto every calorie you eat.
here are best tips we've been giving our clients for 18 years to prevent binging , metabolic rebound and a return to your unhealthy lifestyle (and weight)
- Indulge occasionally. This is one of the primary things to which I attribute maintaining a 40 lb weight loss for 28 years. The 90/10 rule. If your diet is so restrictive that you can't enjoy eating, your weight-loss goals will be too hard to keep. Avoid the "all or nothing" attitude. Weight loss is a process. Don't be discouraged if you give in to temptation once in a while.
· Pick a weight-loss plan you can stick with for a
lifetime. This would be a balanced plan including most of your calories from lean
proteins, fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. If your plan includes expensive
ready-made meals or the elimination of whole food groups, you won't be able to
stick with it.
· Keep a food journal. Studies
show that a food diary really helps, even if nobody but you sees it. Just the
process of writing things down and being aware of what you eat makes a big
difference. I'm a pen and paper sort of gal but there are hundreds of free aps out there.
· Find a weight-loss buddy or group of them . I have found our group fitness participants and How To Reshape Your Body in 21 Days customers who participate in our Face Book community to have much better weight loss and consistency with their programs than our private clients . Research backs up my observation and consistently shows that sharing a weight-loss or fitness goal with a
supportive friend or group of friends makes a big difference
· Eat mindfully. Don't eat to relieve stress or because you are bored or sad. Pay attention to your food. Don't
wait until you are starving, do eat slowly, and do stop eating before you feel
full.
